Committee roles

  • Find out more about our committee roles and responsibilities on the committee page.

Volunteer members

  • You will be placed on a roster, a copy of which will be given to you.
  • You will be required to do two or three duties per membership year. Duty involves counting toys as members return them.
  • If you are unable to help on the day you are rostered on, it is your responsibility to find a replacement. Contact the librarian and let them also know the change.
  • If either you or your replacement does not turn up, then a fine of $25 will be imposed.
  • Fines must be paid before hiring any more toys.

Borrowing toys

  • A rental fee is charged for each two week period and generally range from 50c to $3.
  • Toys may be returned earlier, but rental remains the same. There is no toy reservation service.
  • Once you have decided either Wednesday or Saturday to hire toys, the library expects you to return toys on the due date.
  • Check toys on the day you hire them for missing pieces or damage and ring a committee member immediately to report anything missing or broken.
  • Check toys are complete and clean before returning to the library.
  • Please do not let your children play with the plastic bags that toys are packaged in.
  • All toys must remain in the hirer's care - note: the toys are not insured while out of the library.
  • Helpful hint - the library does not carry much float so small change is preferred, rather than big notes.

Fines

Broken pieces - $5 – or total replacement cost if toy cannot be used anymore
Lost pieces - $5 – refundable on return of lost item within six months. For puzzles, if a lost piece is not found within 4 weeks, you will be asked to pay total replacement cost.
Dirty toys - $5. Clean toys are healthy toys.
Plastic bags not returned - $5
Replacement library card - $2
Overdue toys – Hirage plus $1 extra per toy.

Fines must be paid before you can hire any more toys. Persistent lateness/broken/missing toys may result in cancellation of your membership.

Liability clause – If toys are broken/lost/dirty or generally returned in an unsuitable condition for rehire, you will be fined $5 a piece. However the committee reserves the right to impose an additional fine - up to replacement cost - of lost or broken toy.

Injury liability clause - Members assume complete and full responsibility for any and all injuries to any person/s which result in whole or in part from using a hired toy. The toy library is released from any and all responsibility in respect to injuries sustained, either outside of, or inside the premises. Members acknowledge that LCTL reserves the right to visit homes to claim overdue toys.

History

The Linwood Community Toy Library first opened in August 1991 in a classroom at Linwood Avenue School. It later moved to an old unused library in Worcester Street which is now an Arts Centre on the corner Worcester and Stanmore Road. From there we relocated to the house at 332 Linwood Avenue, which is now the Linwood Community Resource Centre.

The toy library moved out of the house into our own double garage on the grounds of the Linwood Community Resource Centre and we have been there for around five years.
